Matthews lies southeast of Charlotte, out Highway 16 (Providence Road) or exit I-485 or Highway 74. Matthews is unique in that the Town of Matthews actually encompasses both Mecklenburg and Union counties. Both county school systems serve the community. With only 11 miles from Uptown Charlotte, it is simply a great community with a little something for everyone. To get to Matthews from Charlotte’s Uptown area travel south on NC-16 to NC-51 and travel east or take US-74 (Independence Blvd.) southeast approximately 10 miles.

Matthews has experienced a lot of growth in the last decade with many new homes built in the last five years. To accommodate the growing community to the south of the 485 corridor many projects are in the works to expand roads and give better access to 485. Matthews is home to many restaurants, shops and hotels. Golf courses, shopping, dining and of course, Stumptown Park which is the center of cultural activities. Summer events include The Charlotte Symphony performance, evening movies in the park, and the annual Matthews Alive festival and parade on Labor Day. Stumptown Park is located in the center of the historic downtown district at 120 S. Trade Street.

In home searching, there is traditionally more lot size at comparative price points. Homes range from affordable Portrait town homes and single family starter homes to the luxurious million dollar homes in The Forest. The landscape is marked by an abundance of trees and gentle hills. Four Mile Creek is the backdrop for the asphalt trail Four Mile Creek Greenway which links downtown Matthews with Squirrel Lake Park and connect neighborhoods from E. John Street to S. Trade Street. Golf Course communities include Emerald Lake and Shannamara. Many communities features community pools, walking trails, playgrounds or tennis.
